Relative Motion
Subject: Applied Mathematics
Level Ordinary & Honours
Consider a situation where you have two cars travelling down a motorway in the same direction, one car A travelling in front of the other car B. Car A is travelling at 50 mph and car B is travelling at 45 mph, therefore the distance between car A and car B will increase since car A is travelling faster than car B.

To a stationary bystander on the side of the motorway, car A is travelling at 50 mph. However, car B is not stationary, so it does not appear as though car A is travelling at 50mph, it appears as though Car A is travelling at 5mph (50-45=5) ie the speed of car A relative to car B is 5 mph. write my paper
