RISE OF HITLER

  • 1918: Weimar Republic Formed
  • January 1919: Paris Peace Conference- Treaty of Versailles
  • 1921: Reparations of £6000 million ordered
  • January 1923: Allied Troops invade Ruhr- strikes.
  • 1923: Munich Putsch. Hitler jailed.
  • 1924: Dawes Plan ( Stresemann)
  • 1925: Locarno Pact. Hitler freed. SS formed.
  • 1926: Germany joins League of Nations.
  • 1928: Election- Nazi’s win twelve seats.
  • 1929: Young Plan. Hitler leads a campaign against it.
  • October 1929: Death of Stresemann. Wall Street Crash. Start of the Great Depression.
  • 1930: Election- Nazi’s win 5 million seats, the communists win 1 million. Bruning wished to cut wages and social spending- Reichstag refused- Hindenberg enforced it by decree.
  • 1932: Three elections.
    • March: President: Hitler VS Hindenberg. Received 37% votes. Von Papen was the new chancellor.
    • July: General Election. The Nazis won 230 seats of 608 while the communists won 89. Attempts at a coalition failed.
  • November: Election- Nazis win 186 seats.
  • Jan 1933: Hitler becomes Chancellor- Von Papen felt he could control him.
  • Feb 1933: Reichstag building burnt down. Blames on Communists who were banned.
  • March 1933: Election- only 44% of votes.
