the grandads personality is portrayed wonderfully in this poem. he worked at harland and wolff shipyard and survived an accident at work. he makes the most of this bad situation- 'they brought him in on a stretcher from the wold wounded but humourous'

paradox:he appears young at heart but he is in fact old in years. a shrewd and cautious character.
