Examinations

Written Examination (50%)

• 3 hour time limit
• Question 1 is compulsory
  • Part 1A consists of 13 short-answer questions, of which 10 must be answered
  • Part 1B examines your knowledge of the specialised topic
• A further 4 questions minimum must be answered from the remaining 7

Practical Examination (25%)

• 6 hour time limit
• A device must be made from given diagrams and assembled correctly

Project (18%)

• A brief on a given topic is given in November
• You are given approximately 4 months to construct your working model in accordance with the design brief

Folder (7%)

• Each project must be accompanied by a folder outlining the:
  • Analysis of brief
  • Investigation of solutions
  • Criteria for selection of solution
  • Production drawings/plans
  • Testing and evaluation of model
