The Blood
Blood is a human tissue and it is the transport or vascular system in mammals. An adult human has between 5-6 litres of blood.
Composition of blood
blood is made up of a liquid called plasma in which 3 types of blood cells are suspended;
- Red Blood Cells (Erthrocytes)
- White Blood Cells (Leuocytes)
- Thrombocytes (blood platelets)
Plasma
Plasma is made up of:
- 90% water.
- plasma proteins which include antibodies and clotting proteins eg. fibrinogen.
- Dissolved materials which include:
- products of digestion-glucose,amino acids,ect.
- waste products such as carbon dioxide and urea
- Oxygen.
Serum- blood plasma with the clotting proteins removed. Blood is stored in the blood banks as serum to prevent the blood from clotting.
