We are presented with a young man with a mental affliction, a cripple who is limited with regards movement and a young girl who yearns for freedom.
It is a modern play, there are gaps in the telling. We don't, for example, know if there is a blood relation between the two men, nor do we know if Shéamas left.
One one level the play is exaggerated and the characters are unbelievable
The play works at a deeper level, the plot is simple and effective, the theme is developed in an artistic way.
Each character is important, they all add to the theme of the play
